Two Years, Uno, + Breakfast in Bed.

My neighbor (for a few more weeks) is a fantastic wedding photographer, and I would know. Our two year anniversary just so happened to happen around the same time that she decided she needed a few models for her new film camera.

We volunteered. Happily.

Seriously, isn't she great?

Another Boring Wardrobe Post

Dress: Old Navy, Scarf: H&M, Watch: Citizen
Cat: Grumpy.

What I wish I wore Wednesday:

Speaking of Wednesday's (you all remember Wednesday on my side of town is Wedding Wednesday), we've got a special day coming up! Sunday marks two years of marital bliss in the R. Simple Household. This year, I don't have time to recap the day in a whole week (in fact, I just realized I leave in less than 48 hours to go to Fort Worth). So instead... check it.

Now for the obligatory stuffing my advice down your throat (I don't care if you're already married). With a job like mine, and a big, giant wedding binder like mine, and a Brides subscription for 12 years like mine, it is SO easy to get caught up in the details. In the perfect wedding. And ours was perfect. But I have two pieces of advice for the brides and grooms to be.

1. Hire a cinematographer. Just do it. You'll be so happy you did. I didn't hire one, and it's my only regret.

2. Go on a gooooooood honeymoon. I know so many people who didn't get to go on one (thank you Air Force), but it was so much more amazing, so much more relaxing, and SO much more necessary than I thought it was going to be. WELL worth it. I would even say skimp on the wedding as much as you have to to get a good honeymoon.

Now I've got to go pack! What's your advice to the newly engaged, you old married ladies?

It's Friday, Friday, Gotta Get Down.

We've made it through another week, thankfully. This week was a night week, which means I had a husband hanging around the house in the morning, making it very hard to be as productive as normal.

It also means we ate out way too many times this week, due to 9pm home times.

But! It's the weekend now, and we have a crazy, exciting two days planned. Wood chopping, house cleaning, organizing, tennis, pool, and hopefully even a little of everyone's favorite wizard in there.

(Speaking of which, did you see this yet?!)

Before I say goodbye, who's ready to get married?!

This week, I worked in...

Have a phenomenal weekend! xoxox

It's a Royal Wedding

Well, it's the talk of the town. Actually it's the talk of all the towns - from Foggy London Town all the way to tiny little Enid.

And rightfully so. Today is the day when commoner Catherine Middleton became The Duchess of Cambridge. And the deed was done in the most amazing Alexander McQueen dress one could imagine.

And as you all know, or at least you should, there is nothing I love more in this world than Prince Harry a good wedding (seriously, J comes second).

So tip your oh-so-fabulous hats to the Prince and his new Princess, Wills & Kate.

Did you watch?

This Week's Lovelies.

Images from Joe Cogliandro via Little Black Book Blog

We're starting a new "Hooray, it's Friday!" tradition. As you all know, my day job is to pour over ridiculously fabulous weddings for Style Me Pretty. For those of you who are interested in my work, I'm going to link up a few of the weddings we've featured throughout the week. If you'd like to see all my work, you can definitely check out SMP's Little Black Book Blog. At any point in the week, you can see all the lovelies I get to spend my days with. Or you can wait until the end of the week, and I'll link a few of them.

Enjoy! xoxo

B H L D N

I try not to do this. You have to put up with wedding mush galore for a WEEK before our anniversary every year. And even though I love to look at weddings, I know you may not. You do not work for Style Me Pretty. You do not know when all the Spring and Fall collections come out. You do not volunteer your time and creativity to help other people (often complete strangers) make their weddings perfect. You do not call you sister every time you think of a new idea for "her" wedding.

And if you cared, you have probably already seen this.

For those of you who don't care about weddings, we will return to your scheduled blogging tomorrow. I'm sorry. I have to.

Anthropologie has launched a bridal line. Yep. Bridal. B H L D N.

I loved my dress. I still love my dress. I want to dye it red and wear it again. I don't want to have another wedding. I don't want to wear another dress (well at least not outside of the dressing room). But when I heard Anthropologie was adding a bridal collection... you better believe I added the release to my calendar.

And that was Monday. Valentines Day. The wedding world had waited long enough and we now have our B H L D N. We were so happy.

And, I will say it again, I loved my wedding. I would not change it for the world. Seriously. I'm not just saying that to convince myself. I really, truly loved it. But, just for today, we're going to play a game. I'm going to design my wedding fashion, a la B H L D N.

The dress:

The Shoes:

The "veil":

The Bridesmaid:

Now, I know we will all look at these and know this is very current. Trendy. As in, not me.

But today, this is a wedding I want to see. When I shopped for my own wedding, my mission was a timeless look. Something that will always look nice. No poofy sleaves, no cowboy hat veils (I may or may not be talking about a few female relatives of mine who got married in the 80s). And while my wedding might not always been in Vogue (I don't even know if it would have been considered in Vogue in 2009), it will at least be the simple, beautiful, and elegant affair I will always remember.

Nothing like what my wedding would be if these were the fashions. But you can't stone me for loving everything B H L D N has to offer right now.

I do hope no one took offense by this post. I think it is obvious how in love I am by everything in the B H L D N line. I find it all beautiful. How do you all feel?

Meet The Rays

It's a wedding!

October 22, 2010. Colleen and Kyle Ray. When two became one.

It was a gorgeous fall day in Michigan. Beautiful. Sunny, cool, and amazing fall colors. It was a day of anticipation and excitement. Colleen and Kyle have been together for 3+ years now. They've been through so much together. They're a great couple. And, even though they are spending the week in Jamaica, I love them both.

Congratulations to the happy, beautiful couple!

Wedding Week: The Honeymoon

I never knew how much I would appreciate a honeymoon. To me, the big sha-bang was always the wedding. I spent my childhood dreaming about my wedding dress, my first dance, my flowers, my bridesmaids, and my venue, but never about my honeymoon. I just figured it would be a vacation.

No. It was SO much more than a vacation. If I could give all soon-to-be brides advice at the beginning of wedding planning it would be this: skimp on cake, skimp on flowers, skimp on whatever you need to skimp on in order to take a nice, relaxing, long honeymoon.

I had no idea how much fun the honeymoon would be. After crazily planning our wedding in 5 months from 1,200 miles away, we needed a nice relaxing honeymoon. Neither of us were picky where we went, so when Sandals was offering the cheapest rooms (and the flights to match) for Grande Ocho Rios in Jamaica, we were in.

I can not tell you how much we loved Jamaica, especially with Sandals. I promise, Sandals is not sponsoring this post, we just loved it that much. Grande Ocho Rios was awesome. It was huge; there were two sides of the resort and you had to take a bus to get from one side to the other. We stayed on the "Manor House Side" with the big, giant pool. We had our own private villa with a private pool that we shared with four other villas. It was heaven.

(Our pool)

The best thing about this resort was that there was always something going on. There was a volleyball game in the Manor pool, or there was karaoke in piano bar, or there was a talent show in the amphitheater. You could rent kayaks, you could go snorkeling, or you could learn to sail. But while all this was going on, you could also lay in a hammock and listen to the ocean, or you could swim up to the bar and talk with the locals who work there, or you could feel completely secluded.

Every night, dinner was an event. We would get dressed up, and pick the restaurant (actually restaurants, thanks to J) we wanted to go to. Sometimes there were street parties for dinner. Others there were beach parties. Others, we simply settled on one of the resorts 8 amazing restaurants. But we always took a picture before going out.

We only ventured off the resort twice. Now, this is completely not our style, but that just goes to show you how different a honeymoon is than a regular vacation. We were more than happy just relaxing at the resort. But, when we did venture out, we went to the art market and got some really awesome artwork, and we went zip lining. That was an adventure.

First, we piled into a small little van. All 17 of us. And then we drove on a one lane highway ("It's one way, both ways" said our driver) up the side of the mountain. Yes, we did see vans very similar to ours on the side of the road... 25 feet down in the bush. And yes, there was one point when we stalled and rolled backward down the mountain for a minute. But we got there, and the drive was more than worth it.

On our last night, there was a beach party. The set up amazing food stations, lots of tables, and entertainment. Little did we know, we would become the entertainment. You see, our MC for the night asked for people who wanted to learn to dance Raggae like a true Jamaican. Well, we did, of course. Unfortunately, it became painfully aware to us after we had already raced up there that this was a dance contest not a dance lesson. Whoops.

Well, I won second runner up. But my new husband was crowned Jamaican Dance KING. He won the whole contest, and has not let me live it down, to this day.

So that was fun. As much fun as we had on our honeymoon, I don't think it would have been the same if we didn't meet all the amazing Jamaican people who worked at the resort. We made friends with "playmakers," bartenders, and waiters. Hands down, the best thing about Jamaica is its people. And the beaches don't hurt.

Laval, who insisted we were family since we were at "his" restaurant.

Tamara, a bartender at our favorite swim up bar, who cheered us on in our Reggae dance contest.

So there you have it. Not just our honeymoon, but our whole wedding. In a week. Now it's time for me to celebrate one amazing year with my husband. It's been the best year of my life, and if the next 50 are half as good as this one, I can't imagine anything being better.

Wedding Week: The Reception

After the love fest that was our ceremony, it was time to let loose and have somefun. While our guests were enjoying a cool drink while wandering the grounds, my new husband, our party, and I were cheesin it up for the camera.

Good thing J's dad was there to remind us we had to make this thing official and sign some papers.

Next, it was into the barn for some food, drink, toasting and dancing.

The whole wedding party walked through an Air Force saber arch, a fun tradition.

Then it was time for speeches.

After dinner, J and I started off the evening with a bang. We danced to "Fever" by Michael Buble, and were super excited because we had taken secret dance lessons before the wedding. Unfortunately, before we got to show off any of our fancy feet moves, J stepped on the back of my dress, causing the bustle to rip. After that, any fancy dancing was dangerous, since we both keep slipping on my dress.

See??

Attempting Fancy Feet...

And deciding to do our own thing, since Fancy Feet was a no go.

After that, we had our father/daughter and mother/son dances to Louie Armstrong and The Temptations, respectively.

And then, the party began. It was all a blur of dancing, gulping down water, more dancing, singing, hugs, and dancing from here. An AWESOME party, if I do say so myself. We weren't even mad when we walked through our (almost) empty dance floor on our way out and found a bridesmaid and an old friend dancing the Macerana, one of the very few "Do Not Play" songs of the night.

At the end of the night, we hopped into our taxi, drove to our hotel, and ordered a pizza. Seriously. People don't tell you that you really have no time to eat at your wedding. Or drink. I had half a glass of champagne, three glasses of water, and two bites of chicken all night.

Get ready for the honeymoon tomorrow!
